Christmas Tree

One year Abbie is going to go with Mommy and Daddy to pick out and cut down a tree. There will be sleigh rides, hot cocoa, and Christmas caroling. But not this year. This year Daddy and Abbie supported the Boy Scouts and picked out a tree from our local Safeway (not the yucky one in the U District; the nicer one up on 75th.)

There's not much to say about buying your Christmas tree from the Safeway parking lot. The trees are leaned up against the chain-link fence - blue spruce on one side, noble firs on the other. Once you pick your tree out, a boy attaches it to your roof with twine and well-placed knots.

But it was all an adventure for no-one-need-hold-my-hand-while-I-walk Abigail. It's still a little surprising to see her walk unassisted. It doesn't seem possible.
