Hah Wah

What's in the cup, Abbie?

Hah Wah

Hot is one of Abbie's frequently used signs. She puts her hand up to her mouth and whispers, "hah hah." All coffee mugs, pots, and travel mugs are "hah, hah." So is oatmeal, cheese toast, the car door, lamps, lightbulbs, and sometimes even ice (cold isn't really a concept we've spent any time teaching Abbie. Two reasons:
a) Most trips to Children's Hospital involves burns and scalds, not frost-bite, and
b) "Abbie, it's cold" is typically followed by, "let's put a sweater on."

And the bath is "hah hah," especially the faucet. So when Daddy asked Abbie what she had in her cup, she answered, "hah wah."

Pretty smart, huh?
