Travels with Abbie

Although the family was just in California a couple of months ago, we're back. This time Daddy is attending the AIA National Conference and Abbie and Mommy are just hanging out in San Francisco. Abbie is a really good traveler; she's game for just about anything and enjoys taking public transportation. Thus far we have taken a plane, AirBART, Bart, cable car, streetcar, and regular MUNI bus. She loves them all. Currently we have been discussing seatbelts and why in a car Abbie has to be strapped into her car seat, but on a street car she can stand-up and hold-on. It's a really good question and it's doubtful that she's buying Mommy's "the streetcar goes on a track and so is less likely to be hit by a car and is made of much stronger material than our car" answer. Really the important thing is that she is initiating conversation which is one of the key skills needed to be a good traveling companion.

Another key skill? Willingness to share dessert before the ice cream is all melted. Some people (you know who you are) purport to be good travelers but lack this skill. Abbie ordered ("No, you do'd it Mommy"), OK, Mommy ordered for Abbie this cute little gelato in the shape of a bear and then offered a bite to Mommy without Mommy having to ask or even hint that she wanted a bite.

She's going to be a great date. Many, many, many years from now.
